All Recycled Paper is Not Created Equally

When asking for recycled paper for your next print job, please keep in mind that all recycled paper is not the same. Post Consumer Waste (PCW) paper products are made from the contents of paper found in recycling bins.

Typical "recycled" stock is actually made from mill waste that has never been used as a product and has always been reused or "recycled" to make more paper. We encourage our clients to choose papers that contain at least 30% PCW.

Using PCW products helps protect our planet, saves fresh water and doesn't require chlorine bleach, a known toxin, to manufacture. So, "recycled" really doesn't tell you the whole story. Ask us what is new in PCW stock.

We're always testing and researching new papers and can provide you with up to 100% PCW stocks for your next job.

FUN FACT: In 2007, 56% of the paper consumed in the United States was recovered for recycling. The 54.3 million tons recovered equals approximately 360 pounds per person in the U.S. and accounts for approximately 37% of the fiber used to make paper in the U..

If your new promotional piece is going out to a large audience of prospects, here are some questions to ask:

  • Do you have a list, or will you purchase one?
  • Does your list include the best prospects?
  • Has your list been double-checked for accuracy and duplication?
  • How much time will it take you to process your list?
  • Does your mailing qualify for reduced postage?
  • How much time will it take you to fold, stuff, and mail every piece yourself?
  • Could using a mailing house be more cost effective and save time?

3 Different Types of Printing

Being aware of the available printing options gives your designer more tools, getting your design closer to your vision.

Large Volume, High-Speed Printing
What most people think of as "copying". Modern machines allow for printing from a hard copy or digital files. They're fast, and produce truer copies than older models. Available in color or black & white.

Traditional Offset Printing

When consistent, sharp, clean images and text matter, traditional offset printing is the way to go. There is no way to match the crispness and color available from offset printing. However, this makes the technical setup of your design files that much more important.

Oversized Digital Printing

This process is perfect for posters, engineering copies, and store displays. Our largest machine can print up to 60" wide, and run any length. Mounting and laminating make these prints durable, and can even protect them from fading

Which Comes First: Design or Printing?

It might sound logical to plan your next marketing collateral project on a linear timeline -- that is, don't worry about printing until the design is done. In reality, a linear plan might make your project more difficult and send it over budget.

It's best to think about design and printing together, and to get your designer and printer talking. Why? Because of the technical aspects of production.

Use the wrong printing process and your beautiful new design looks like sloppy, amateur work. Slap a glossy finish on a poor design, and you only draw attention to its low quality.

By consulting with you and your designer early in the process, we can make sure that your designed piece will be technically feasible and will fit within your budget.

Start the printing conversation today to save time and stay on budget.

Our highly trained, experienced and skilled staff have the resources to produce exactly the look you want. Visit ACE Printing and Mailing Services, or call us at 415.460.2800.

Professional design is such a powerful business tool that British research firm, Design Innovation Group, found that companies with good design had profit margins averaging 14 times higher than their competition.

The design-conscious firms took just as much care in the rest of their businesses, and customers responded to their message. With that kind of profit jump on the line, the question shouldn't be whether you can afford professional design, but if your business can thrive without it.

Here are 3 Questions to evaluate your business' graphic design:
  • Does the design of your promotional materials put people in the mood to do business with you?
  • Does it reach your audience at an emotional level?
  • Is it technically prepared for the printing process?

Proven Rules for Business Graphic Design

1/6/2015

In every business communication, design creates an emotional response in readers that either helps or hurts you. It's not just slapping together images to make something that looks cool.

Good design follows proven rules to get results:
  • Is it easy to read?
  • Does it increase comprehension?
  • Does it draw people in?
  • Do the colors, type styles, and images work together?
  • Is there a natural path for the eye to follow?
  • Are the details of layout, spacing, spelling, and grammar correct?

Getting all of those details right takes some expertise and experience. If you want your business to look its best, it is in your interest to hire a professional-someone who can custom craft a piece that fits your vision, instead of trying to make your vision fit into templates and clipart that a software program provides.
